A Novel Of Redemption
Author: Paulo Coelho
Subject: fiction
My rating: 4*
About the book:
I wanted to read this book for a long time, especially after reading The Zahir and Eleven Minutes (which I enjoyed a lot). This book is also enjoyable, however, I find it overrated. It is a good story and an interesting parallel between Veronika and Coelho's own experience with mental hospitals. Perhaps I expected too much from the book and didn't find that 'je ne sais quoi' I was looking for. What I found interesting about the author is that he is pirating of his books- he created a blog where he posted many of his entire books in several languages. The books can be downloaded and printed, and shared with others. Check it out here: Pirate Coelho
From the book:
The chronically embittered person only noticed his illness once a week, on Sunday afternoons. Then, with no work or routine to relieve the symptoms, he would feel that something was very wrong, since he found the peace of those endless afternoons infernal and felt only a keen sense of constant irritation.
Monday would arrive, however, and the embittered man would immediately forget his symptoms, although he would curse the fact that he never had time to rest and would complain that the weekends always passed far too quickly.
