About the book:
I came across this book accidentally (or maybe not?), and absolutely loved it! The writing is beautiful, with East-West parallels. A must read for any health professional! The book raises the question if caregivers can raise their capacity for compassion, and what compassion means in today's medicine. Plenty of examples and teachings from a rinpoche, thought provoking and full of wisdom. An amazing gem of a book!

From the book:
'Illness includes both the disease and the person's reaction to their own body. So the first step in becoming more compassionate is to learn how it feels to be ill.'

'We allow our senses to control us, and that prevents us from being natural and free.'

'When a thought forms in the mind of a spiritual practitioner, the degree of clinging to things as being solid, real and permanent is not as strong (as for an ordinary person). The spiritual practitioner is striving to see things as they really are, not as they seem.'

'If we could develop the ability to completely release the tendency to hold something firmly in our minds, to fixate, then any type of suffering could be overcome.'

'Patience is like an armor, and the stronger your compassion, the stronger the armor.'
